2006 Phoenix Suns

Even as we say “Congratulations” to the San Antonio Spurs, winners of the Western Conference Finals, we want to say a big “Thank you” to the Phoenix Suns, winners of the Pacific Division, for the amazing season they had!

The Suns had an excellent 2006 playoff run that came up just short of the NBA Finals. The heart of this battle-tested team is Steve Nash, who creates incredible scoring opportunities. The high-flying Amare Stoudamire is a constant scoring threat and a formidable inside presence, which complements Shawn Marion’s rebounding skill on the other block. With the Suns just missing the NBA finals last season, fans have high expectations for another superior Suns season.

After the 2001-2002 season, the Phoenix Suns made some major changes by trading players and changing their coaching staff. Their current coach, Mike D'Antoni, came on board for the 2003-04 season and turned the Suns back into contenders.

Although the Suns had been playing consistently well with a stock of past standout players (including Kevin Johnson and the clown prince, Charles Barkley), they are still looking for their first championship. In 1975, they advanced to the NBA finals and since then have been the bridesmaid for many other outings to the outrounds. The team will continue to depend on Amare Stoudamire, NBA MVP Steve Nash, Joe Johnson and Shawn Marion in the team's hunt for an NBA championship title -- in home games at US Airways Center and on the road.
