Even as we say “Congratulations” to the Pittsburgh Penguins, winners of the Eastern Conference Finals, we want to say a big “Thank you” to the Boston Bruins for the terrific season they had!
Coach Claude Julien guided the Bruins to 94 points in his first season at the helm, providing a lot of excitement to the TD Banknorth Garden. The Bruins established a solid team identity this season. The team had major injury problems, most notably Patrice Bergeron, but the Bruins overcame these adversities, showing a lot of character down the stretch. Many players overachieved, led by Marc Savard and Glen Murray, resulting in a third place finish in the Northeast division. If the Bruins can gain one or two more scoring threats in the off-season, they will become a top Stanley Cup contender for next season.
While the 2006-07 season wasn’t kind to the Bruins, who finished last place in the Northeast Division, fans are looking to the 2007-08 season to turn things around. GM Peter Chiarelli is betting that new additions Manny Fernandez, Shawn Thorton and Paul Schaefer will pay off, and anyway, the team has nowhere to go but up! What they really need right now is your support, so get your tickets to TD Banknorth Garden to cheer the Boston Bruins on to a winning season in 2007-2008!
Founded before the 1924-25 season, the Bruins became just the second American team to win the Stanley Cup in the 1928-29 season on their way to establishing a legacy as one of the premier hockey teams in the history of the NHL. The Bruins have had some of the NHL's best players lace up the skates, including Hall of Famers Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, and Ray Bourque. In their long history, the Bruins have hoisted the Stanley Cup five times. They are now looking to bring the Cup back for the first time in over 30 years.
The Bruins play in the sports hotbed of Massachusetts's capital. The proximity of New York, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Montreal, and Philadelphia, along with their long history, provides the Bruins with plenty of rivalries. Boston is known for its dedicated and knowledgeable fans.
Boston is one of the country's foremost sports cities. The Boston Red Sox (Fenway Park) are always one of the teams to beat when baseball season starts in March. The NFL's New England Patriots (Gillette Stadium) play in nearby Foxboro. Boston is also home to the Boston Celtics, one of the most storied teams in NBA history, who also share the fine facilities of TD Banknorth Garden.
