Even as we say “Congratulations” to the Pittsburgh Penguins, winners of the Eastern Conference Finals, we want to say a big “Thank you” to the Washington Capitals, winners of the cutthroat Southeast Division!
After the Washington Capitals started the season in a dramatic 6-14-1 slump, owner Ted Leonsis took dramatic action – firing Coach Glen Hanlon. Bruce Boudreau took over and led the Caps to a first-place finish in the Southeast Division and a strong seed in the NHL playoffs. Alexander Ovechin, Nicklas Backstrom, and Viktor Kozlov provided nightly goal-scoring highlight reels, and Mike Green turned in a performance as the NHL’s highest-scoring defenseman. The Capitals are still an extremely young team, so with a little more seasoning, we expect them to become a top Stanley Cup contender.
The 2006-07 season wasn’t kind to the Washington Capitals, who finished a lamentable last place in the Southeast Division, but changes in the off season bring new hope for 2007-08. GM George McPhee’s goal of getting a center capable of aiding Alexander Ovechkin was more than reached when he snagged Michael Nylander from the New York Rangers, and with Swedish star Nicklas Backstrom and veterans Viktor Kozlov and Tom Poti joining the team, the Caps are ready to make a real run at the playoffs this season. Catch them in action on the ice at Verizon Center and cheer the Washington Capitals on to a winning 2007-2008 season!
The Washington Capitals play at the Verizon Center, which is also home to the NBA's Washington Wizards, the WNBA's Washington Mystics, and the NCAA's Georgetown Hoyas. Verizon Center is a venue for major concert tours, ranging from Tim McGraw to Pearl Jam, from the Ten Tenors to Shakira. Coast to Coast has excellent tickets to any of these events, and much, much more!
