Everyone is buzzing with the news - Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to what is sure to be the biggest fight of 2008 when they take each other on at MGM Grand Garden Arena in sin city on December 6th. It took almost a year to put this fight together, and since it will take place at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds, both men will be fighting outside their normal weight limit. De La Hoya, at 154 pounds, has been fighting mostly at the junior middleweight level in the past few years while Pacquiao, considered the “pound for pound king”, weighs in at 135 pounds, and so normally fights in the lightweight division.

Both men are eager for this fight, with De La Hoya telling ESPN “Manny Pacquiao is considered the best fighter in boxing today and I always want to fight the best. I am glad we were able to make this fight happen because while Pacquiao is at the pinnacle of his success and has defeated all of the top fighters he has faced, I am going to show the world that it stops with me. December 6th can't get here soon enough.” Pacquiao is just as determined, saying “This will be the toughest test of my boxing career because of the reach and height advantage of my esteemed opponent aside from his great boxing skills. This fight will not be a walk in the park for Oscar. I will frustrate his desire to avenge the defeats of great Mexican boxers who have lost to me. Boxing fans will see the same fire and intensity they have witnessed in my previous fights."
