2008 Los Angeles Lakers

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers, the 2009 NBA Champions, and to Kobe Bryant, Finals MVP! The Lakers beat the Orlando Magic in an exciting 5 game series, 4 games to 1, to take home their 15th NBA Championship. This championship is their fourth this decade, setting a record in the top four professional sports in the United States!

The Los Angeles Lakers took home the 2008 Western Conference title, but they lost the championship to the Boston Celtics by a mere two games. Though the Celtics didn’t exactly sweep the Lakers, they did out rebound them by 30 over the course of the six game series, and a hole in the Lakers’ defense was exposed. Of course, part of the reason the defense was weak was the absence of emerging young star Andrew Bynum, who was taken out in January for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Bynum is healed and ready to play the 2008-09 season, and with the additions of Josh Powell and Sun Yue, the Lakers are hoping that problems with their defense will be a thing of the past. The Los Angeles Lakers are a team with one of the highest attendance records in the league, and as early favorites in the Western Conference, everyone will want tickets to Staples Center to see them live. See for yourself if the 2008-09 season will bring the Lakers their 15th NBA Championship with tickets from Coast to Coast!

The Los Angeles Lakers have a long history of being champions. Before moving to L.A. in 1960, they originally played out of Minneapolis, and they dominated the NBA throughout the '40s and '50s. Led by George Mikan, the Lakers won the first NBA Championship in 1951, and they became the first dynasty by winning four championships in the first five years of the NBA. All together, they have won a total of fourteen championships, with three of them coming in consecutive seasons from 1999-2002.

Over the years, some of the greatest players in the history of the game have played for the L.A. Lakers. These great players include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, James Worthy, Jerry West, and Magic Johnson. The Lakers seem poised to return to dominance of the NBA as they seek their 15th NBA Championship. Attend a home game at the Staples Center and witness one of the greatest franchises in the history of the NBA. The L.A. Lakers are sure to be an exciting team to watch! Also, be sure to check out the Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim or the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings when you come to town.
