Well, for once, the rumors were true – the Seattle SuperSonics have been moved to Oklahoma City and have begun the 2008-09 NBA season as the Oklahoma City Thunder. After a rough start, head coach P.J. Carlesimo and assistant coach Paul Westhead were fired, with assistant coach Scott Brooks taking over head coaching duties in the interim. As a former NBA player himself, Brooks can relate to the players in a way that Carlesimo never could, and since he was a point guard, a position he has called “an extension of the coach”, he brings a unique perspective to his coaching style. Though they have a hard road ahead, the Thunder have a talented, ever-improving roster including Russell Westbrook, Chris Wilcox and last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year Award winner Kevin Durant. Though season tickets to Ford Center have already sold out, Coast to Coast has plenty of single-game tickets left – but they won’t last long.
