In recent years Kansas State, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas have won in the Cotton Bowl. Ole Miss took the prize in 2004 beating Oklahoma State 31 to 28. High-scoring games like this have made Cotton Bowl history all the more exciting over the game's 68 year history.

The Cotton Bowl is one of the oldest bowl games, having begun in January of 1937 as the vision of J. Curtis Sanford. The first two teams to play were the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs and the Marquette Golden Avalanche. These two teams featured two of the best quarterbacks in the game and the pairing got the attention of many fans. Sammy Baugh for TCU brought down the house and the team beat Marquette. It was the fulfillment of Sanford's dream for his New Year's game to be such an exciting contest and for it to be held in Dallas.
