Originally titled the Birmingham Bowl, the 2008 Papajohns.com Bowl will switch from hosting a Conference USA (C-USA) team to a team from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and will match that team up against a representative from the Big East conference. Legion Field has been the site of previous college football bowls: the Hall of Fame Bowl from 1977 to 1985 and the All-America Bowl from 1986 to 1990. ESPN Regional TV owns the Birmingham game, which received NCAA approval early in 2006.
