1964 the Tribute

2016 1964 the Tribute

1964 - The Tribute is a Beatles tribute band and probably one of the best today. They have been acclaimed by critics and Beatles fans everywhere. One of the most authentic tribute bands, 1964 - The Tribute has been called "the number one Beatles show in the world."

The group consists of four members: Mark Benson as John Lennon, Gary Grimes as Paul McCartney, Jimmy Pou as George Harrison, and Greg George as Ringo Starr. The Tribute was formed in 1984 by Mark Benson and Gary Grimes, who had previously played together in another band. Greg George joined the band but left for a short time to earn a degree in psychology. He rejoined the band permanently in 1993 along with Jimmy Pou. The band is based out of Akron, Ohio, although Jimmy Pou resides in California and Greg George lives north of Akron. The remaining members are residents of Akron.

1964 - The Tribute became a very popular band quickly . They spend most of the year on tour and have sold out tickets all over the country. The band has appeared at college campuses, conventions, fairs, festivals, and corporate events. They were voted "Best Major Concert Act" and "Best Contemporary Act" by Campus Activities Today Magazine. They were also voted "Contemporary Music Artists of the Year" by the National Association for Campus Activities, and "Campus Entertainers of the Year" by the Canadian Association for Campus Activities. They have appeared on television and radio across the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. They have been featured on Entertainment Tonight, PM Magazine, CNN, the USA Network, and the Nashville Network. The band has sold so many tickets that they have been scheduled to play at Carnegie Hall. They have even produced two CDs - Nine Hours in November and All You Need is Live - which include Beatles cover songs.

These men have gone to great lengths to ensure the authenticity of their band. Gary Grimes, a right-hander, has learned to play his guitar with his left hand to imitate the style of Paul McCartney, and Greg George has switched from a left-handed kit to a right-hand set like the one Ringo played, although both men are lefties. 1964 - The Tribute has even tracked down vintage instruments to match the ones their respective Beatles played. They have also had custom suits made to look identical to the ones the Beatles wore. Even their mannerisms, voices, and amplifiers have come to resemble the Fab Four, making sure every detail is as accurate as possible.

Even people who were close to the original band have been astounded by their resemblance. George Harrison's sister was so moved after watching a performance by 1964 that she held a party at her house in their honor. Alistair Taylor was the President of Apple Records for the Beatles, and after witnessing a performance by 1964 - The Tribute he said, "the resemblance was uncanny, it sent shivers down my spine. It was just like the boys. Never have I seen another group go to such detail." 1964 - The Tribute has even been called the "born-again Beatles!"
