BoDeans is an American rock band from Waukesha, Wisconsin. The band is currently comprised of Kurt Neumann, Jake Owen, Noah Levy, Michael Tarabay, Michael Ramos, and Warren Hood. Originally, the band was formed as a duo of just Neumann and fellow guitarist Sam Llanas.
The band has released eleven studio albums, beginning with 1986’s Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams, which peaked at the 115 spot on the Billboard 200. The band closed out the 1980s with two more albums: Outside Looking In, and Home. Both of those albums reached the top-100 on the Billboard 200 and were the bands two highest charting records in band history, at 86 and 94 respectively.
Throughout the course of the 1990s, BoDeans continued to release albums, putting out 1991’s Black and White, 1993’s Go Slow Down, and 1996’s Blend. The late 90s saw each of the members focus on their solo careers, with Neumann releasing the album Shy Dog, and Llanas releasing A Good Day to Die.
In 2004, the band came back together for their first studio album in eight years, their seventh album Resolution. During the course of the tour, the band released a live album entitled Homebrewed: Live from the Pabst and a subsequent DVD with the same title later that year. In 2008, the band released Still, which was produced by T-Bone Burnett. This album marked a shift in the band’s sound away from the more modern rock sound they had achieved on their previous few albums and moved more towards their roots and a more Americana sound.
In 2010, the band released their ninth album, Mr. Sad Clown, which featured Neumann producing the album as well as playing the majority of the instruments on it. While critics praised its lo-fi sound and production, the album was BoDeans final album to reach the Billboard 200 to date. 2011 saw a period of great tumult for the band, as Indigo Dreams, the band’s tenth album, was the first to not crack the Billboard 200. Shortly after the album’s release, original member Sam Llanas left the band, citing personal differences between he and Neumann.
The band continued on, and after replacing Llanas, the band released their eleventh studio album, American Made, another album to not make the Billboard 200. The band is also releasing Amped Across America, a double live album being recorded on the American Made tour.
