Although formed in 1991, the Counting Crows did not become widely known until 1994 after the release of their first album, August and Everything After. The upbeat track 'Mr. Jones' held the album in the Top 200 for 93 weeks. After their hit debut album, the Counting Crows released Recovering the Satellites in 1996. By 1999, they had released their third studio album, This Desert Life. Their fourth album, Hard Candy, was released in 2002. The Counting Crows have also released numerous singles over the years, as well as a live two disc set Across the Wire: Live in New York City in 1998.
Singer Adam Duritz and guitarist David Bryson originally formed the group and eventually turned to musicians Matt Malley (bass), Charles Gillingham (keyboards), and Steve Bowman (drums) to complete the group. Steve Bowman left in 1994 and was replaced by Ben Mize.
The Counting Crows rise to stardom began with the release of their debut album in 1993, August and Everything After. With hit songs like 'Mr. Jones', 'Omaha', and 'Round Here', the band was able to show off their incredible talent. The mix of piano, guitar, and moving lyrics throughout the album brought emotions to everyone who listened to it.
