The band got the name Death Cab for Cutie from a song by the '60s British rock group, The Bonzo Dog Band. Singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard got the band together in 1997 after the release of his first solo effort, You Can Play These Songs' Chords. After the success he had on his own, Gibbard was inspired to form a band to write with.
Bassist Nick Harmer, drummer Michael Schorr (later replaced by Jason McGerr) and guitarist/organist Christopher Waller became the members of Death Cab for Cutie. Their first album as a group was Something About Airplanes in 1998. It was highly acclaimed by the indie community. As they continued to release records almost every year, including We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes and Transatlanticism, they honed their live show into a perfect representation of their bittersweet music and earnest lyrics.
Their 2005 record, Plans, reached number four on the Billboard charts and gained Death Cab more fans than ever before. You deserve to see them perform songs like 'Soul Meets Body' and 'Summer Skin' live and in person.
