2016 Dido

Dido Armstrong was born on Christmas day in 1971. It was apparent she was musically gifted at an early age when she had mastered piano and violin at London's Guildhall School of Music by the time she was ten. She began touring with a classical music ensemble shortly after and was soon lending her voice to various local bands. It didn't take long for her brother, a leading U.K. dance producer, to realize her talents and bring her aboard his band Faithless.

The 1996 debut saw her as lead singer for the hit single 'Flowerstand Man' and propelled her into a successful music career. After the platinum success of the album Reverence by Faithless, Dido began an 18-month tour with the band before making a larger contribution to their second project, Sunday 8pm. She had long been writing her own material and had recorded a number of demos, which led to record contracts with Cheeky Records in the U.K. and Arista in the U.S.

Her 1999 debut in the U.S., No Angel, was an instant success, propelled by the use of her song 'Here With Me' in the hit TV series Roswell and 'Thank You' being used on the Sliding Door soundtrack. The biggest break came when rap superstar Eminem sampled 'Thank You' for his single 'Stan'. The song became a huge hit and launched Dido into the American limelight.

No Angel was an angelic, down-tempo fusion of acoustical and electronic music. The album was instantly successful throughout the top 40 radio market. Released in the U.K. in 2000 and boosted by live performances throughout the U.S., her debut solo album quickly reached platinum status. She toured the album for a few months and then took a well-deserved break from the spotlight. She took some time off to travel and found herself in new places with a new outlook. During her travels she found time to start writing songs that would inevitably be used on her follow-up album.

It wasn't long before she was back in the studio again and the resulting album, Life For Rent, was born in September of 2003. 'White Flag' debuted at number two in the U.K. and was her highest charting U.K. single up to that point. The album itself found a place at the top of the album charts for the remainder of the year and within its first two months out had sold over two million copies.

Dido has continued to produce music her fans love and adore. With over 20 million total album sales to date and having performed sold out concerts across the globe, Dido has become an entertainer loved the world over. She has been awarded Best British Female and Best British Album by the Brit Awards in 2002, and No Angel has reached number one in thirteen different countries. A recent writing collaboration for Britney Spears, 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman', was a huge success and a number one hit for the pop-diva. To date Dido's 2003 release, 'Life For Rent', has sold over 12 million copies and continues to fuel the never-ending need for fans to get their hands on tickets for her next live performance.
