The conception of the orchestra was in 1945 as the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra and performances were held for two years until the Los Angeles Philharmonic took over concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. In 1991 the orchestra re-formed and has had help from many big names in the music industry. Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli and Charlotte Church are a few of the classical guests in recent performances. Pop music's representation has come from Tony Bennett, Harry Connick Jr., John Denver, Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks, as well as the groups The Moody Blues, The Chieftains and Peter, Paul and Mary, among others.

Seeing the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra live is an amazing experience and their world tour appearances, including Japan and Brazil, have received rave reviews from critics.
