With the forming of this band a legend was born, and continues even today. Formed in the era of Glitter Rock with the likes of Alice Cooper, David Bowie and The New York Dolls, Kiss adopted Kabuki-like makeup as part of their look. They wore outlandish costumes and put on quite a show.
The critics despised them from the beginning saying they were nothing but show with no musical style or talent. However, they had a growing following, those who had bought and listened to their first two albums and called themselves the Kiss Army. They released Dressed To Kill, their third album, which contained the all time favorite song 'Rock and Roll All Nite' yet they still weren't selling heavily. In 1975 they decided to take a chance and release a live album. Still considered to be one of their best albums, the chance paid off making them one of the most popular bands in the world.
As their popularity grew, the stage shows became progressively more extravagant. Dry ice, smoke bombs, crazy lighting, blood spitting and fire breathing drew in the masses of young fans. The drawing in of the younger audiences was something they had never considered when they started the band.
