Singer, songwriter and pop culture icon Lionel Richie has enjoyed a recording career spanning four decades and a variety of musical influences. As a songwriter and founder member of Motown legends The Commodores, Lionel Richie was one of the most celebrated proponents of popular soul and R&B during the 1970s. As a solo performer, he was one of the most successful and recognizable artists of 1980s pop music. As a respected singer and composer, Lionel Richie continues to reach a truly world-wide audience with his individual stylings of balladic soul, funky instrumentals and sensual lyrics. See the author of hits such as “Three Times A Lady,” “All Night Long” and “Hello!” with Lionel Richie tickets to see a genuine pop-music legend live in concert.
Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1949, Lionel Richie grew up around and later attended the Tuskegee Institute, where he formed and performed with several local bands before being invited to join The Commodores as a vocalist and saxophonist.
As The Commodores soared to success, Richie’s soothing vocals and songwriting ability led him to collaborate with other artists such as Kenny Rogers and Diana Ross, creating a string of smash singles and making his 1982 solo release on Motown almost inevitable.
Lionel Richie’s self-titled debut was an instant critical and commercial success. His second solo album, Can’t Slow Down, made him a household name across the world, spawning some of the biggest hits of the ’80s including “Hello” and “All Night Long” and earning Richie the 1984 Grammy for Album of the Year.
After record-breaking success as a solo artist, Lionel Richie took a much noted break from studio recordings between 1986’s Dancing on the Ceiling and 1996’s Louder Than Words. Richie went on to release three further albums before 2006’s Coming Home, each exhibiting his awareness of changing pop sounds with upbeat rhythms and choppy instrumentals. The hit single “I Call It Love” announced Richie’s return to pop prominence, and now you can witness his unique performances live with Lionel Richie tickets from Coast To Coast.
