Pet Shop Boys History

One of a kind is the only phrase to describe this delightful synthpop group! Tickets to a Pet Shop Boys concert will get you some really fun entertainment from one of the best dance-pop groups in the business!

Over the course of their unusually long career, which began in 1981, the Pet Shop Boys -- vocalist Neil Tennant, backed up by Chris Lowe at the keyboard -- have achieved near cult-status among the legions of their fans. Blending disco, Latin, alternative rock, musical theater, and pop with a cheeky postmodern attitude, this talented duo had their first world-wide success with such hits as West End Girls, Love Comes Quickly, and Suburbia. Always experimenting artistically, the Pet Shop Boys wrote a successful musical, Closer to Heaven, and made a critically-acclaimed film, It Couldn't Happen Here. Some fans love the Boys for their lushly melodic dance music, while others particularly admire their satiric, irreverent social and cultural criticism.

With what one critic called rare grace and intelligence, this gorgeous-sounding, multi-faceted electronic pair also earned a huge following among gay audiences, making significant statements on such issues as AIDS and homophobia. Moving effortlessly from introspective, melancholic ballads to bright and bubbly tunes a la Noel Coward, the Pet Shop Boys drew praise from such legends as Elton John, Dusty Springfield, Liza Minnelli, and Willie Nelson. Most recently (in 2006) the two had a winner in their wickedly mischievous assessment of the George Bush/Tony Blair alliance, I'm With Stupid.

There's something for everybody to enjoy in a Pet Shop Boys concert. Those familiar with the band will love once again hearing these quintessential entertainers, who are always best experienced LIVE. And if you've never had the pleasure of catching them in concert, get a ticket for the Pet Shop Boys -- one of the best and most unusual acts performing today!
