Roger Waters got his start by playing rhythm and blues in 1965 with The Abdabs, where he befriended songwriter Syd Barrett. The members of the band changed and in 1966 they became Pink Floyd. They were soon recognized for their original songs that set the standard for the underground psychedelic sound.

In 1967 Waters had his first musical success with the songs 'Arnold Layne' and 'See Emily Play' off the album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The success was too much for the unstable Barrett, so Waters brought in guitarist David Gilmour. It would be the start of a collaboration that would make music history with albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall.
Pink Floyd released Dark Side of the Moon in 1973; it was to stay on Billboard's 200 album chart for 15 years. This was a time when Waters shared creative control with all of Pink Floyd, but the songs he wrote, like 'Money' and 'Us and Them,' stand out as milestones of rock music.Read the full Roger Waters Article
