If you remember anything about music in the 1970s, you probably don't mind remembering the Steve Miller Band. Part entertaining pop, part solid bluesy rock, the music that Steve Miller created provided the decade with comfortable guitar hooks and entertaining lyrics. After all, Miller is the man who gave us a reference to 'the pompitous of love.' Along the way, Steve Miller sold an awful lot of records and tickets to his ever-growing fan base.
Steve Miller, a blue-collar bluesman, came from the city of blue-collar beer, Milwaukee. His parents whisked him off to Dallas, where he met another future musical star, Boz Scaggs, when they were boys. Their first band, the Marksmen, was a blues outfit that didn't make them rich or famous. They both ended up back in Miller's birth state at the University of Wisconsin, and they created a couple of bands there without anything big happening.
Miller took his talents to Chicago in 1964 and then to San Francisco in 1966. He appeared at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, with Boz Scaggs rejoining his band for that gig, which earned the Steve Miller Band a Capitol Records contract. A few albums later, Miller came up with his first Number One single, 'The Joker' (1973). Two other Number One singles followed, 'Rock'n Me' (1976) and 'Abracadabra' (1982).
While Miller's stream of hits slowed, the loyalty of his fans never waned, and he has continued to create exciting concert experiences for people who enjoy straightforward, solid pop-rock tunes. This legend of rock music is as exciting to see as ever, so you should make sure you get your tickets to his show before they're gone.
