Origins

Founded in 1883 the Philadelphia Phillies are the oldest continuous, one-name, one-city franchise in all professional sports. Throughout their long history, the Phillies have seen 32 Hall of Famers wear the big red P on their chest. Among the best known are 3 time MVP Mike Schmidt and four time Cy Young winner Steve Carlton. Those 2 players also led the Phillies to their only World Series title in 1980. Tug McGraw became a city hero when he recorded the final out to beat the Kansas City Royals.
