The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is a sort of minor league for NASCAR, under the Nationwide Series. The Craftsman Truck Series is the only series in NASCAR to feature modified pickup trucks (the other NASCAR series, Sprint Cup and Nationwide, feature cars). Of the three NASCAR series the Craftsman Truck is the newest, having begun in 1994, with the first NASCAR-style pickup trucks being shown at the 1994 Daytona 500. In 1995 the NASCAR SuperTruck Series began, and was an immediate hit with drivers and fans alike. In 1996, the series became known as the Craftsman Truck Series.
Though it was initially thought of as the “senior tour” of NASCAR, that is no longer the case, as this series has produced Sprint Cup series drivers that have never raced in the Busch series. However, currently all of the top 10 drivers are over 30 years old, and 7 of them have raced in the Sprint Cup before. While veteran drivers may dominate the series, it is still considered a worthy proving ground for the novice.
Many of the Craftsman Truck races are held at the same tracks as Sprint Cup series and Nationwide series races, which makes them perfect for kicking off a three-day weekend chock-full of racing action. Whether you’re in Daytona for the Chevy Silverado HD 250, the Camping World 300 and the Daytona 500, or at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Ford 200, Ford 300 and Ford 400, Coast to Coast has the best ticket selection around.
