With only 17 wins in the 2008-09 season, something clearly had to change for the Sacramento Kings for the 2009-10 season, so they hired a new head coach, Paul Westphal, and changed the roster quite a bit. In the draft they picked up Jon Brockman, Omri Casspi and potential rookie of the year Tyreke Evans. They traded for Sergio Rodriguez and acquired Sean May from the Bobcats and Desmond Mason from the Thunder. These new players are expected to bring more toughness to the team, something they’ll need with the more offensive minded Westphal at the helm. The Sacramento Kings were one of the original 17 organizations to first make up the NBA, and they have made their home in Sacramento since 1985. The Kings were a powerhouse team in the 40's and 50's, when they were known as the Cincinnati Royals, and they won their only NBA Championship in the 1950-1951 season. The Kings have had some great players over the years, including Oscar Robertson, Nate "Tiny" Archibald, and Jack Twyman, but they fell under the radar during the 80's and 90's. Today, the Kings are a team on the rise. In recent years, the Sacramento Kings have returned to prominence, and they are once again a major power in the Western Conference. Former coach Rick Adelman developed the team into a high-powered offense, and he led the Kings to consecutive winning seasons when he came over in 1998.
