Hailing from Dallas, Texas, the Mavericks are one of the most recognized and most followed teams in professional basketball today and have been since they first joined the league in 1980. When the Dallas Mavericks were first established in the NBA there were placed in the city of Dallas the quench the city’s desire for another professional basketball team. This came after the former Dallas NBA team left for San Antonio in 1973. This departure had Dallas basketball fans reaming and many petitioning to have a new team sent to the Texas town. Finally in 1980 the people of Dallas were granted their wish and the Dallas Mavericks found their way to the city and found a new home thanks to voting by league owners.


When the Dallas Mavericks first came to the city they were greeted by hoards of adoring fans who were anxious to see a NBA team back in their new town. The team quickly became the hometown heros of Dallas not only because the city was ready for the team but because everything about the Dallas Mavericks embraced the people’s love for the city. The team name; the Mavericks even came from the hit 1960 television western show about their town. This warm welcoming from the people of Dallas continued on for decades and today the Dallas Mavericks are still extremely beloved by the people of Dallas.


In addition to having a huge fan following the Mavericks have also won multiple conference and division titles in the Southwestern Division of the Western Conference where they play. They also gave fans something to really cheer about in 2006 when they made their first appearance in a NBA finals game; something that many teams in the Maverick’s group of expansion teams has yet to do. Since their inception the team has not only won NBA Championships but they have produced numerous big name players and industry legends with players such as Rolando Blackman, Dennis Rodman and Dirk Nowitzki all wearing the Dallas Mavericks uniforms.


For those who want to see the Mavericks play live, ticket opportunities are often plentiful as the Dallas Mavericks call the American Airline Center, one of the biggest arenas in professional basketball their home. However, just because the arena can host tens of thousands of screaming fans on home game night it doesn’t mean tickets are always available. Due to the popularity of the Mavericks home tickets are known for selling out far in advance whenever they play at home.
