Even as we say “Congratulations” to the Dallas Mavericks, who beat the Spurs 4 games to 1 to advance to the Conference Semifinals in the 2009 NBA Playoffs, we want to say a big “Thank you” to the San Antonio Spurs, winners of the Southwest Division, for the great season they had!
Well, it’s probably a safe bet that the San Antonio Spurs didn’t perform as well in the 2007-08 season as their fans had hoped, finishing in 2nd place in the admittedly tough Southwest Division and making it to the Western Conference Finals before being knocked out by the Los Angeles Lakers. On the plus side, the team starts the 2008-09 season with its three superstars, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan, still on the roster, and a little something else you might have overlooked. The Spurs have won the NBA Championship four times – and every time, it’s been in an odd year. So, the 2009 NBA Finals are looking pretty good for the Spurs, if you’re superstitious (and what sports fan isn’t?). The Spurs have a fan base that packs the AT&T Center no matter how the team’s doing, so if you want to see them live, get your San Antonio Spurs tickets today!

The San Antonio Spurs first came to the NBA in 1976. They were originally members of the ABA (American Basketball Association), and in 1999, the Spurs became the first former ABA team to win a NBA Championship. They have maintained a strong position in the powerful Western Conference year after year, and they are always in the hunt for another Championship.
After coming to San Antonio in 1976, the Spurs won the NBA title in 1999 with the help of the Twin Towers, Tim Duncan and David Robinson - the 2002-03 season was Admiral Robinson's last of his impressive career. The 2008-09 season is starting out great, with head coach Gregg Popovich and general manager R.C. Buford at the helm and Tim Duncan, Bruce Bowen, Tony Parker and Emanuel Ginobili under contract until at least 2010, the Spurs are poised to make another run at the title and probably have the most talented team they ever had in franchise history to date. The AT&T Center hosts all home games for the San Antonio Spurs.
