Winning just 2 of 16 games in the 2008-09 season, the St. Louis Rams landed in last place in the NFC West, and it was clearly time for a change. The 2009-2010 season is starting with a new head coach (former Defensive Coordinator for the Giants Steve Spagnuolo), new offensive coordinator (Pat Shurmur) and new defensive coordinator (Ken Flajole). Spagnuolo was responsible for making the Giants’ defense one of the top in the NFL, and he’s determined to do the same for the Rams. He’s already begun by drafting James Laurinaitis, Bradley Fletcher, and Dorell Scott, and signing James Butler, and he’ll keep going until he feels he has the depth he needs. The offense was strengthened with the additions of center Jason Brown and offensive tackle Jason Smith. Will it be enough to pull the Rams out of their slump? See for yourself with tickets to Edward Jones Dome to watch the Rams in action!
Some St Louis Rams history: The Cleveland Rams were founded in 1936 as a member of the American Football League (a different league from the AFL that later merged with the NFL). A year later the team joined the NFL. The Rams moved frequently, playing in three different stadiums over several losing seasons. In 1945 a remarkable turnaround occurred as rookie quarterback Bob Waterfield led the Rams to a 9-1 win-loss record and a 15-14 victory over the Washington Redskins in the NFL Championship Game. Despite the Rams' successful season, the franchise remained unprofitable. Following the season the team moved to Los Angeles.
