The Edmonton Oilers’ 2007-08 season wasn’t their best, ending up with a 4th place finish in the tough Northwest Division, but it was a season of transition. The Oilers have plenty to be excited about in rookies Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano, who both turned out phenomenal performances last season and should only improve in 2008-09. The management has been switched up, with long time General Manager Kevin Lowe taking over President of Hockey Operations duties and Steve Tambellini coming in as the new GM. Now that veteran Sheldon Souray is healthy and ready to play and Lubomir Visnovsky has come over from the Los Angeles Kings, the Oilers will pack quite an offensive punch on the blue line. With Oilers’ fans packing Rexall Place regardless of the team’s performance, you may want to secure your spot near the ice right away. After all, you want to be able to say you were there when the Edmonton Oilers dominated the 2008-09 season, don’t you?
The 1980s were the truly hot years for the Edmonton Oilers. But during the NHL's 2005-06 return, the Oilers put together a record of 41 wins, 28 regulation-time losses, and 13 overtime losses, for a total of 95 points, enough to squeeze into the eighth slot among the teams competing to represent the Western Conference in the final contest for the Stanley Cup.
