With major players lost prior to the season, the Buffalo Sabres had a tough rebuilding project, but the team came through with a 4th place finish in the Northeast Division. The Sabres made history on January 1st, when their home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins was played outdoors at Ralph Wilson Stadium – setting an NHL attendance record with over 70,000 fans in the house. We saw gritty performances most nights from the Sabres at the HSBC Arena, with flashes of brilliance from Derek Roy and Jason Pominville. This emerging team will need to make some off-season moves to become a serious Stanley Cup contender, but the strong nucleus they have created gives a lot of hope in Buffalo.
The Buffalo Sabres finished the 2006-07 season at the top of the Northeast Division, no small feat considering the competition. Fans are anxious about the 2007-2008 season though, since star centers Chris Drury and Daniel Briere defected to the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, respectively. On the plus side, Jocelyn Thibeault was added to the roster and Thomas Vanek, Teppo Numminen and Derek Roy all re-signed, so the team’s in good shape. All they need now are supportive fans cheering them on! Get your tickets to HSBC Arena and see the Buffalo Sabres fight for the 2008 Stanley Cup!
