We all know how hard it is to make it these days as a band. Especially New York City where there literally seems like there is a quality band on every block. But that didn't stop Anamanaguchi members Peter Berkman,James DeVito, Ary Warnaar and Luke Silas, who, in 2004 fused their love for music with their love for video gaming into this unique partnership. Its perhaps once every twenty years or so that a band as good as Anamanaguchi energizes and dominates the music scene like these four have.Commonly known as chip punk, this trending style of music will appeal to the the geek in all of us. Its a music created by use of old game systems instead of instruments. It usually contains an upbeat and fast paced sound. As you listen you can almost see your favorite classic video game character racing around in a go cart or fighting the dragon. Anamanaguchi takes this one step further by giving their music a pop feel. Lead singer Peter Berkman admits one of his inspirations is the group Weezer. Berkman argues that its not fair to call chip punk a genre any more than Christian music can be a genre, he adds there are a million ways to do it mentioning there are Pop Christian bands and Heavy Metal Christian Bands.What Elvis was to early Rock and Roll Anamanaguchi is to chip punk, at the forefront. Anamanaguchi is not only breaking the mold they are making the mold with tunes such as My Skateboard Will Go On and Meow. Seeing Anamanaguchi perform live is a real treat, audiences leave the venue smiling and energized by the high energy performance of these young musical pioneers.
