The SEC Championship Game is the name for the official college football game held every year to determine the winner of the Southeastern Conference. The winner of the game is deemed the season champion for the conference and is held after the regular season of play has come to an end. Every year this game will place a representative from the SEC Western Division against a representative from the SEC Eastern Division in a game that has been notoriously engaging and has featured a number of close match ups. The game has had twenty different meetings over the past decade with the first event held in 1992. This year the SEC became the first conference in the NCAA Division I football program to hold a conference championship game of this type.During the history of this game nine of the 14 current members of the SEC conference have played in the SEC Championship Game. To date, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Missouri have never been in the game. Only six of the nine teams to have ever played in the SEC Championship game have come out victorious. Past winners include LSU, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. As of the 2012 season the Eastern Division currently has more wins than the Western with the overall record being 11-9.
