American rock band The Used was formed in 2001 in Orem in Utah. The band was initially recruited with drummer Branden Steineckert, bassist Jeph Howard and guitarist Quinn Allman. Bert McCracken impressed by their music wrote lyrics that became 'Maybe Memories'. The band went on to write songs and record a demo album 'Demos from the Basement' in Steineckert's room. John Feldmann heard the song 'A Box Full of Sharp Objects' and took the band to L.A. After playing for several Record executives, they sent their demos to companies. First they signed with Reprise Records and releasing their debut album 'The Used' made them rise to fame. They released five albums till 2012. These albums have reached the statuses of gold and platinum in various countries. They managed to sell around three million records universally by 2008. In their time the band underwent homelessness, substance abuse and poverty. The band's name 'The Used' was decided upon when friends asserted they felt used when band members becoming engrossed in their projects faded contact with them. The trademark of the band is turning private hardship into art. Their fifth album 'Vulnerable' marked a conquest for their singer Bert McCracken. In 2006 drummer Branden Steineckert was replaced by Dan Whitesides. With the new member the band issued 'Lies for The Liars' ranking fifth on The Billboard Top 200. After ages of worthwhile tours and records the band deserved some time off. After two years and various writing sessions lasting about two months at a stretch the band came up with abundant songs ideas. After McCracken's recovery who had fallen off the stage in Orange County in 2011 the songs came about in an utterly different style than the band's previous work. The guitarist and the drummer were temporarily unavailable so Howard and McCracken worked on the initial writing and incorporated the previously produced ideas. With the will to overcome all emotional and physical obstacles the band might have spend the recent years attending to wounds and tying knots but the coming years will bring their fortifying message to the world.
