Yellowcard History

Evolving through many line-ups and traveling through many cities, Yellowcard has become one of the most popular post-punk bands of the new millennium. With an embracing pop-rock sound and an engaging stage presence, they have managed to bridge the gap between hardcore rock and popular mainstream appreciation. Many have noted the originality of their sound, with its mixture of aggressive vocal tensions, sweet string harmonies and free-flowing rock jams. The extemporaneous nature of their live performance ensures a one-of-a-kind musical experience when you buy tickets to see Yellowcard.

Yellowcard originated at an arts school in Jacksonville, Florida in the late nineties, starting out as a six-piece lead by Ben Dobson (vocals), Todd Clarry (guitar and vocals), Ben Harper (guitarist) and the distinct violin sound of Sean Mackin. Things started taking off changed line-up and moved away from Florida to record One for the Kids in 2000. The replacement of Dobson and Clarry with new front man Ryan Key that occurred during the move left Harper, bassist Warren Cooke and drummer Longineu Warren Parsons III as the only founding members. Perhaps the apparently turbulent nature of the band's membership has contributed to the explosive nature of their live and recorded performances: despite these obstacles they released Ocean Avenue to great acclaim in 2003. The band's 2006 release on Capitol, Lights and Sounds, represents the first Yellowcard offering without Ben Harper, who left the band after the re-release of the Where We Stand EP in 2005.

Although there may be confusion surrounding the band's history, there is none when it comes to measuring their commercial success. Ocean Avenue has sold a total of well over 2 million copies, with notable singles being those written by then new bassist Peter Mosely ('Ocean Avenue,' 'Breathing'). Yellowcard's most recent album has so far proved their most successful: Lights and Sounds sold over 90,000 copies in the first week and went on to reach #5 in the Billboard Chart. The popularity of singles such as 'Rough Landing,' 'Holly' and 'Only One' has also earned the band multiple placings in various singles charts. Statistics as strong as these suggest that Yellowcard tickets will continue to increase in popularity every day.

The ongoing success of Yellowcard is due largely to their reputation as an original and entertaining live act; thousands of satisfied concert-goers have experienced the fluid rock-jam stylings and naked aggression of their performances. The unique violin sound, passionate vocals and buzzing guitar lines are a breath of fresh air injected into the pop-punk genre.
