When fans of motorsports talk about IRL races, those letters stand for Indy Racing League. The 'Indy' part, of course, is short for Indianapolis, and that in turn is a nod to the Granddaddy of open-wheel races, the Indianapolis 500. The Indy Racing League is the governing body for two annual series of races, the IndyCar Series itself (aka IRL) and the Indy Pro Series, a developmental series for the IndyCar.
Besides the Indy 500, a mainstay of Memorial Day weekend, there are currently 13 other IRL races over a span of 25 weeks from March to September. Most take place on oval tracks which also host NASCAR races; however, the Indy Japan 300 takes place at the Twin Ring Motegi in Japan, and IRL races in St. Petersburg, Florida; near Watkins Glen, New York; and at Infineon Raceway near Sonoma, California, are road races.
Wherever your Indy Racing tickets take you, you'll be witnessing some of the fastest and most exciting racing there is!
