The unconventional makeup of Celtic Woman is part of its huge allure. The band is composed of four Irish female vocalists (Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, Orla Fallon, Lisa Kelly, and Chloe Agnew), fiddle player Mairead Nesbitt, and composer/musical director David Downes. The group's albums and live concerts feature not only songs performed by the entire band, but also many solo parts for the band members to display their individual talents.

Celtic Woman performs a wide range of musical selections, from old Irish tunes to contemporary songs, and many songs were created by David Downes himself. Recognizable titles include Irish tunes such as 'Danny Boy,' classics like 'Ave Maria,' and contemporary covers like 'Orinoco Flow' by Enya and 'Harry's Game' by Clannad. As of summer 2006, Celtic Woman is well into their second year atop the Billboard World Music Charts!
