Bryan Adams is a Canadian rock musician from Kingston, Ontario. At fourteen, Adams began playing guitar, and by the age of 15, joined the band Sweeney Todd, who released If Wishes Were Horses in 1976 with a 15-year old Adams as the lead singer. Adams struggled early on, signing his first record deal for all of one dollar.
In February of 1980, Adams released his eponymous debut, which was certified gold in Canada. After releasing You Want It You Got It in 1981, success found Adams with the release of his third album, Cuts Like a Knife in 1983. The lead single “Straight from the Heart,” reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100, while “Cuts Like a Knife” the song also reached the Billboard Hot 100, charting at number fifteen.
Reckless was Adams’ next album, and brought him the greatest success. Released in 1984, the album contained six singles which reached the Billboard Hot 100, including three in the top-10, “Run to You,” “Summer of ’69,” and “Heaven.” “Heaven” reached the top of the chart, and “It’s Only Love,” Adams’ duet with Tina Turner was nominated for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group at the Grammy Awards. The album was Adams’ most successful, and was certified platinum five times over.
Adams found his next number one hit with “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” off Waking Up the Neighbours. The album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200, and reached the top of the charts in both the United Kingdom and in Germany. Adams was nominated and won a Grammy Award in 1991 for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television.
Adams has been nominated and won a number of awards over the course of his career. He has been nominated for a staggering 94 awards, including 56 Juno Award nominations and three Oscar nominations. He has won 21 awards over his career including 18 Juno Awards, 1 Grammy Award, 1 American Music Award, and 1 MTV Video Music Award. Adams has also been honored with the Officer of the Order of Canada, and British Columbia, and is on both Canada and Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
