Pat Benatar is most famous for her intense concerts complete with guitar-driven music, in-your-face vocals and arena rock songs like 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot' and 'Love Is a Battlefield.' She was the epitome of the female rocker during the 1980s, mixing her albums and performances equally with rock 'n' roll anthems and emotional ballads.

Benatar got her start in the 1970s in New York, where she was working with guitarist and future husband Neil Giraldo. She signed to Chrysalis Records and in 1979 released In the Heat of the Night her recording debut and her introduction to radio listeners. The album had the singles 'I Need a Lover' and 'Heartbreaker' and Benatar was soon on her way to becoming a pop rock sensation.
In 1980 the album Crimes of Passion hit the shelves and the songs 'Treat Me Right,' 'You Better Run' and 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot' were huge hits. The album was certified platinum, and Benatar began headlining arena shows and getting Grammy nominations. She was nominated eight times during the 1980s for 'Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female' and won the Grammy four times. She released a steady flow of acclaimed albums during this period, including Precious Time, Get Nervous, Live From Earth and Wide Awake in Dreamland.
During the early 1990s Benetar backed away from the hard-hitting rock that she had become famous for but jumped back into her groove and went on full-fledged rock tours with Fleetwood Mac and REO Speedwagon in 1995 and Styx in 1997.
