Switchfoot History

Most bands in America just burst into the scene, produce one great single and then fade away into oblivion. This is not the case for the all-American alternative rock band known as Switchfoot. Switchfoot is a highly successful rock band that has landed a number of record-breaking hits and albums. For instance, their 2003 album known as 'The Beautiful Letdown sold over 2.3 million copies. The singles on these albums included 'Dare You to Move' and 'Meant to Live.'The band members include Drew Shirley, Jerome Fontamillas, Tim Foreman, Jon Foreman and Chad Butler. Four of the band's songs were also included in the movie 'A Walk to Remember.' The movie released in 2002, was partly responsible for the amazing response and recognition Switchfoot gained in the rock music scene before their 2003 album release. The band has since won a Grammy for their album, 'Hello Hurricane' in 2011. They won the Grammy in the Best Rock Gospel Album category. The Christian tone and feel in their music has led many to believe that Switchfoot is indeed an exclusively Christian music group. The band has even won numerous awards in exclusive Christian music awards such as the Dove Awards. They also featured in the June 2006 cover of the CCM Magazine. CCM Magazine is a publication of Salem Publishing, which is a Christian organization. Switchfoot on the other hand, prefers a no-label attachment to their music. They feel that labels such as 'Christian Rock Band' only serve to exclude others from listening to their music. The band feels that their music is indeed for everyone, Christians and non-Christians alike.
