In 1960 Willie made some decent money selling the song 'Nite Life' for an undisclosed amount of money to a businessmen in Texas. He bought himself a Buick convertible and headed for Nashville to take a stab at a music career. Within two years of being in Nashville he had established himself as a writer and had sold two number one hits to Faron Young and Patsy Cline. By 1973 Willie's popularity had grown and in 1975 he released his 'Red Headed Stranger' album, which pushed him into the spotlight and brought him onto the charts.

In 1978 Willie began acting. Beyond television acting and the many cameo appearances he made, he also had roles in several films, including 'Red Headed Stranger', 'Thief', 'Honeysuckle Rose', 'Pair of Aces', 'Songwriter', and 'Stagecoach'. The eighties brought opportunities for Nelson to do duets with the likes of Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard any many others. Throughout his career Nelson wrote top ten hits for himself and sold hits to other artists. In 1993 Willie's classic and ever popular 'On the Road Again' was used in the critically acclaimed soundtrack to the movie 'Forrest Gump,' reminding everyone that he was still an intricate part of music and the world around us.

1993 was also the year Willie Nelson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame but by that time he was already a living legend for country music fans across the world. Having written hit songs like 'Nite Life' for Ray Price, 'Crazy' for Patsy Cline, and 'Funny How Time Slips Away' for Billy Walker, Willie had never gone unnoticed.
