Even as we say “Congratulations” to the Los Angeles Angels, who beat the Red Sox 3 games to 0 to advance to the American League Championship Series in the 2009 MLB Playoffs, we want to say a big “Thank you” to the Boston Red Sox, who placed 2nd in the fierce AL East Division, for the terrific season they had!

The Boston Red Sox had a commendable 2008 season, placing 2nd in the tough East Division and making it to the AL Championship before they were knocked out by eventual World Series winners the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox decided to spend the off season shoring up the roster, extending the contracts of Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia, strengthening the bullpen by adding Takashi Saito (from the Dodgers) and Ramon Ramirez (from the Royals), and with the addition of Brad Penny, they may well have the deepest rotation in the MLB. The biggest buzz surrounds John Smoltz – the eight-time All-Star is a proven player, but it remains to be seen if his recent shoulder surgery did the trick.
