The Atlanta Falcons ended the 2008 season in 2nd place in the NFC South and scored a wild-card berth in the playoffs, quite an improvement from the previous season’s last place finish. The progress was due in large part to the Falcons’ impressive offense, led by quarterback Matt Ryan, recently named Rookie of the Year, and aided by running back Michael Turner, who finished the season with 1,699 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns, a team record. With the addition of tight end Tony Gonzalez, considered by many to be the “greatest tight end of all time”, the Falcons’ offense is good enough to get them to the Super Bowl. Some Atlanta Falcons history: Altanta was awarded an NFL franchise for the 1966 season and was coached by Norb Hecker, a former assistant to Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers. Linebacker Tommy Nobis, the team's first draft pick, captured the 1966 NFL rookie of the year award.
