We’re hoping that Brett Favre is still in good enough shape to lead this year’s Jets team to the NFL playoffs. The New York Jets made a flurry of offseason moves, bringing in defensive star Calvin Pace and offensive lineman Alan Faneca. Of course, the biggest surprise was the acquisition of Brett Favre. After a long career with the Green Bay Packers, deciding to retire from the NFL, changing his mind and coming out of retirement, and some tense negotiations with Packers’ management, Favre was traded to the Jets in early August. These are big moves with immediate potential. We look for a Jets surprise in 2008 with a significantly improved product on the field, with an offensive output that might even surpass that of their New York Rival, the Super Bowl champion Giants.
In 1969 the Jets, then members of the American Football League (AFL), recorded one of the most dramatic upsets in professional football history, stunning the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. The team was led by head coach Weeb Ewbank, wide receiver Don Maynard, and charismatic quarterback Joe Namath. New York joined the NFL in 1970.
