The 2008-09 season wasn’t kind to the Colorado Avalanche, who ended up in last place in the Northwest Division, but with a new GM (Greg Sherman) and a new head coach (Joe Sacco), the 2009-10 season looks bright. Management wasn’t the only thing that changed in the offseason for the Avs. Super Joe Sakic retired, and the team drafted Matt Duchene (3rd overall draft pick) to take his place. Though Duchene is only 18, he has veteran captain Adam Foote to help guide him, and his excellent performance for the Brampton Battalion has already drawn comparisons to Sakic. Though the team is in a rebuilding process, they do still want to stay competitive, so their biggest problem – goaltending – was addressed with the acquisition of the underestimated Craig Anderson. The blue line is in great shape, with Kyle Quincey and Tom Preissing joining the already solid group of John-Michael Liles, Brett Clark, Ruslan Salei and Scott Hannan. All in all, it’s going to be a tough but exciting season for the Avs, and they’ll need your support. Get your tickets to Pepsi Center and help cheer the Colorado Avalanche on to victory!
