The Edmonton Oilers ended the 2008-09 season with a disappointing 4th place finish in the Northwest Division, but lead by new head coach Pat Quinn, the Oilers expect to turn things around for the 2009-10 season. Associate coach Tom Renney and assistant coach Wayne Fleming were also brought on board. Other than the coaching changes, the offseason was fairly quiet, with goalie Dwayne Roloson and forwards Ales Kotalik and Kyle Brodziak leaving and goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and forward Mike Comrie coming on board. Roloson was good, but Khabibulin is still an upgrade, coming in with international experience and a Stanley Cup win under his belt. The Oilers are really counting on the coaching staff to turn things around this season, but they’ll also need fan support. But during the NHL's 2005-06 return, the Oilers put together a record of 41 wins, 28 regulation-time losses, and 13 overtime losses, for a total of 95 points, enough to squeeze into the eighth slot among the teams competing to represent the Western Conference in the final contest for the Stanley Cup.

In the years between 1984 and 1990, Edmonton went all the way to win that trophy five times (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990). Could they pull off an upset and do it again? Buy your Oilers tickets and be there to cheer them on!
In 1979 Edmonton and three other teams from the WHA joined the NHL in a merger of the two rival leagues. In the process, the Oilers introduced to the NHL a group of talented players who dominated the 1980s. Leading this team was the player generally regarded as the finest in league history: Wayne Gretzky, known as The Great One. In his nine NHL seasons with the Oilers, Gretzky won seven straight league scoring titles (goals plus assists) and eight straight Hart Memorial Trophies as the league's most valuable player (MVP). He led his team to four Stanley Cup championships in five seasons, from 1984 to 1988.
