It was a disappointing year at Philips Arena, as the Atlanta Thrashers got off to a very slow start and were unable to earn a spot in the NHL playoffs. Atlanta ended up with a 4th place finish in the Southeast Division. Bob Hartley did not last long this season as the Thrashers’ coach; he was replaced by GM Don Waddell after a 0-6 start. Bright spots for the Thrashers team include the play of Ilya Kovalchuk – his 52 goals tied his own franchise record – and Tobias Enstrom. If the Thrash can acquire a playmaking center to complement Kovalchuk, they can begin to mount a credible attempt to win the Stanley Cup.

The Atlanta Thrashers had a pretty good 2006-07 season, winning the Southeast Division, but they were knocked out of the playoffs by the New York Rangers in the first round. That just means that they’re starting out the 2007-08 season with something to prove, but much will depend on the health of aging new additions Ken Klee and Karel Pilar.
