The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, also known simply as the Sprint Cup or the Cup Series is a season-long highly coveted series of races held in the professional sport of racing. he series first formed in 1949 and since then has been carefully followed by fans and rivers alike. Since first forming, this series of races has been held primarily in the Southeaster portion of the United States with more than half of the 36 races from the Sprint Cup Series being held in this region of the country.
As the top racing series in all of NASCAR the race to win the Sprint Cup is annually one of the most followed events in the sport. The series which has also been known as the Grand National Series, Winston Cup Series and the NEXTEL Cup Series is made up of 36 different races throughout the NASCAR season that are designed to help determine a single season champion.
The first section of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series features 26 different races which are held throughout the season. These races are tracked with a detailed point system that is used to rank the drivers based on their performances. Once the first 26 races from the season have been completed, the top 12 drivers with the most points are seeded for the remaining ten races of the season. Each of the 36 different races that make up the Sprint Cup Series are designed to provide drivers with completely different and unique challenges so the true top driver from the season can emerge at the end of the race for the Sprint Cup. These races kick off with the popular Daytona 500; the popular first race of the NASCAR season and the first official race in the Sprint Cup Series. With 36 different events during the year fans of the sport will have a number of different opportunities to see races in the series and to cheer on their favorite driver to an end of the season Sprint Cup victory.
