Crystal Castles is an electronic band from Toronto, Canada, who formed in 2004. The band is made up of two members, producer Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass. The two met when Glass was just 15, and after going into the studio to record five songs, she later found out that they had become popular online after Kath posted them online.In 2008, the group released their eponymous debut. The album was a collection of singles they had released throughout the previous few years. The album received high critical acclaim, and was named the best debut album of 2008, the 12th best album of the year, and the 39th best album of the decade by NME. The album also charted well, reaching the number 47 spot on the UK Albums Chart, and peaked at number six on the US Top Electronic Albums chart.In 2010, the band released their second album, once again named Crystal Castles; however, the album goes by Crystal Castles (II). The album was once again met with high critical praise, as it was named the 34th best album of 2010 by Pitchfork and was a longlisted nominee for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize. The album was also their first album to chart on the Billboard 200, reaching number 188. The album also reached number three on the US Top Heatseekers chart, and number eight on the UK Dance Albums Chart.In 2012, the band released its third album, entitled (III). The album was widely critically praised, receiving accolades from press in the United Kingdom and abroad. The album was listed at number one on The Hype Machine’s Top Ten Albums of 2012. The album charted extremely well. The album reached the top of the US Heatseekers chart, number two on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and was the band’s first album to chart in the top-100 on the Billboard 200. The album charted on four other countries top albums chart, including Australia, Belgium, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
