Disney On Ice: Rockin' Ever After History

Disney on Ice is a touring ice show, founded in 1981. These shows feature figure skaters, dressed as Disney cartoon characters. In these performances, the music and plot is taken from a variety Disney films and stories. The shows, targeted mostly at children, will bring together stories from films across generations before typically coming together for the grand finale of the show. These shows have taken place all around the world. Typically, a show will start in North America before heading to Europe and Asia. Throughout its history, Disney on Ice has traveled to more than 60 countries, performing more than 1,200 performances each year in North America alone, with more than five million attendees.Rockin’ Ever After will feature Ariel, Belle, Rapunzel, and for the first time on ice, Merida from the recent film Brave. The show incorporates pieces from the movies Brave, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Tangled. This Disney on Ice show is another show that focuses on the Princesses. Other characters that are featured in the performance are Sebastian and the Daughters of Triton from The Little Mermaid, the pub thugs from Tangled, all of the enchanted servants from Beauty and the Beast, as well as additional characters from Brave. According to producers, in a way of effectively tying together these four stories, the show uses motifs pulled from talent shows on TV to lead into each fairytale. In Merida’s portion of the story, she attempts to win her own hand in marriage in an archery contest. The show currently finds itself in Chicago and the surrounding area, performing in the area for an astounding two-weeks. After leaving the Chicago-area, the show moves east, traveling to Boston for more than a dozen performances before moving north of the border for seven performances in Toronto’s Rogers Centre. In April of 2013, the show moves to the state of Texas. Over the course of the month, the show moves from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, to the Alamodome in San Antonio. After San Antonio, the show moves to the equally massive Reliant Stadium in Houston before finishing out the month at the American Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christie.
