Fun. History

fun. is an American indie rock band from New York City, New York. Nate Ruess, along with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff, formed the band. The band has also toured with Nate Harold, Emily Moore, and Will Noon.In August of 2009, the band released their debut album, Aim and Ignite to critical acclaim. The album charted as high as number 20 on the US Alternative and number 23 on the US Rock charts as well as number 71 on the Billboard 200. After the release of the album, the band toured in support of Jack’s Mannequin, and Paramore. The album featured two singles, “At Least I’m Not as Sad (As I Used to Be),” and “Walking the Dog,” neither of which charted.In February of 2012, the band released their second album, Some Nights. Fewer than two weeks after the release of the album, the single “We Are Young,” featuring Janelle Monáe, reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album peaked at the top spot on the US Alternative and the US Rock chart and made it as high as number three on the Billboard 200. The album has sold more than 800,000 copies and has been certified gold by the RIAA.The second single off the album, “Some Nights” reached the top spot on the US Rock and Alternative charts and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The third single off the album, “Carry On” peaked at number eight on the Alternative chart, number 13 on the Rock charts, and number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100.The band won its first two awards at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, winning Choice Rock Group and Choice Single by a Group. The group has also been nominated for 15 other awards at the Q Awards, the Peoples Choice Awards, the NewNowNext Awards, the mtvU Woodie Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards, and at the American Music Awards. The band is also nominated for six Grammy Awards at the 2013 Grammys including Best New Artist, Record and Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.
