My Chemical Romance has been called pop-rock and punk-pop. They are neither of these. My Chemical Romance is an Emo band. That stands for emotional hardcore, which is the only way to explain their fierce melodies and introspective lyrics. This band has been an integral part of the latest resurgence of Indie Emo music in America. Tickets to their concerts are selling fast so you may want to get yours now.
The band hails from New Jersey and was started by singer Gerard Way and former drummer Matt Pelissier in the early 2000s. They started writing together and with their first song, 'Skylines and Turnstiles,' they felt they really had something. Gerard asked Ray Toto (guitarist), his brother Mike Way (bassist), Frank Iero (guitarist), and eventually Bob Bryar (drummer) to join the band.
My Chemical Romance began playing live shows all over the northeast, amassing an incredible following and selling tickets like crazy. They had a gritty dramatic sound that appealed to Eyeball Records and were picked up to put out their debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. 'Drowning Lessons,' 'Vampires Will Never Hurt You,' and their first song, 'Skylines and Turnstiles,' were featured in the release.
Their second album and first major label record was Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, in 2003. It was just as cathartic and manic as the first album and did just as well with My Chemical Romance's fans. Their live show is as energetic as their music, and the lyrics to the songs give fans a picture of the members' very souls. If you want to get to know these guys, you have to buy tickets to a My Chemical Romance show.
