From the creators of Les Misérables and the producers of Riverdance comes The Pirate Queen, a fabulous musical celebration of the life of 16th century Irish chieftain Grace O’Malley. Told with an inspiring and dazzling performance of traditional Irish music and dance, the story is of a remarkable historical figure who was not only a renowned seafaring noblewoman but a pirate, mother and politician. Tickets to see The Pirate Queen offer a unique collaboration between joyous Irish folk tradition and Broadway theater that will not only entertain and enlighten but involve audiences in the splendor of Irish folk music.
Adapted from an original novel by Morgan Llywelyn, The Pirate Queen was written by Alain Boublil with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, who together with their previous work on Les Misérables and Miss Saigon have shown great talent for theatrical historical dramas. Coupled with the production of Riverdance’s Moya Doherty and John McColgan, the creative talent behind this production suggests a stylish and professional classic musical and a feast of stunning Irish dance. Frank Galati (The Grapes of Wrath) directs a strong cast including Stephanie J. Block (The Boy from Oz) as Grace O’Malley, Linda Balgord (La Cage aux Folles) as Elizabeth I and Marcus Chait (Urban Cowboy) as O’Malley’s husband Donal.
The biography of the Pirate Queen is simultaneously fascinating, stirring and spectacular. This presentation of the life of Grace O’Malley provides a compelling theatrical event without detracting from the significance of the astonishing life of a woman labeled as a leader and mother by some and a pirate by others. The extraordinary choreography of Mark Dendy and the illustrative lyrics of John Dempsey come together to create a wonderful narrative piece as well as a flowing and emotional visual experience that will both stimulate and invigorate. Pirate Queen tickets are available now for a one-of-a-kind musical event.
