This new production promises audiences a chance to see the story like they have never seen it before in this new stage adaptation of the beloved tale. The story details the experiences of a British schoolteacher, Anna Lenowens (O’Hara) and her journey as she becomes the governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam. Set in the 1860’s the story not only tells a tale of love but of the time period as well.During the opening of the play, the audience gets to know Anna as she as hired as part of the King’s plan to modernize his country, although conflict develops the two embrace an unlikely love that unfolds live on stage. The play, which first opened in 1951, has earned five Tony music awards. Now, this award-winning play is being brought back to life as an experience unlike any other. Now the story of Anna and the King comes to audiences with a fresh breath of life with a whole new cast and the same exciting musical numbers that first made audiences fall in love with this story.The adaptation of this story promises to delight fans with even more exciting sets, costumes and choreography. The production will begin performances at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre on March 12th, 2015 and will then experience its official debut later in the spring.
